Week 11

Good morning!  Hope you are chipper and looking forward to the day.   It's a beautiful fresh one as I write. One last essay for Introduction to Composition, the final exam, and summer break is nearly upon us.

 I very much enjoyed your company all quarter and I want to thank you for all the wonderful attention and work you submitted.  I will remember you all always.

T oday we will  start by looking at past work and then to the narrative work you were to get started on for essay 3.  This means we will spend a little bit on last week's blog post, which we had no time for in class.  We will review the  grammar of verbs, sentence punctuation, and use of quotations.   We will get through as much as we can, including the use of apostrophes!, reserving the final draft of summary work described as homework below to next week's classwork. Your narratives (essay 3) are due in class this week or next, as you like.  We are scheduled for a very short midterm essay next week in the latter half of class, but I may push that to week 6. Week 8

   W elcome back.   Hope you had a wonderful week. Today we will address the essay practice involving comparison and contrast, which may include adopting a hypothetical stance so that we get some practice in using the subjunctive mood and conditional verb forms. There will be time to work in class, and to review grammar and punctuation and summary works.  We may then watch one or two of the films from Alain de Botton's The School of Life, on YouTube, time permitting.       The last essay (#6) before the class final will require you to present a summary and response view of a Botton film short, including the main ideas of the work and description of how it is illustrated or animated.  There are many from which to choose, so I leave the final selection to you, knowing that a personal sense of connection to the topic is important to your sense of engagement.  Botton is an Englishman and speaks in a teacherly way throughout...
